This common dish is a lovely, healthy side dish or snack. Garbanzo beans and sesame seeds provide many complex carbs and proteins that support structural components of joint tissues. In Ayurvedic medicine, sesame seeds serve as a powerful Vata remedy that improves lubrication of joints, has a grounding and calming effect on the mind, and provides a nourishing effect for the body as a whole.

  • 1 cup cooked garbanzo beans
  • 2 tablespoons tahini (sesame paste)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 tablespoons water

COOKING GARBANZO BEANS: Soak garbanzo beans in water overnight. Boil soaked garbanzo beans for 1 hour on medium heat to cook fully.

MAKING HUMMUS: Puree all ingredients in a food processor or blender, slowly adding water as needed, until hummus is thick and creamy. Sprinkle a dash of cayenne and a pinch of cumin seeds. Serve with sliced cucumber for a cooling effect that controls inflammation.
